Hiawatha Tango Orchestra is a tango ensemble based in Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA. We play a mix of golden-age tango for social dance and modern tango music for stage.
Tango is the native sound of Buenos Aires, Argentina. Much like American Jazz from New Orleans, Tango was born in a port city at the turn of the last century. Like Jazz, it is a melting pot of many musical styles. Tango music is much more than the Hollywood rose-in-the-teeth caricature. Tango music is "Classical music you can dance to!".
The signature sound of Tango comes from the Bandoneon, a member of the accordion family that is unique to tango. HTO is lead by Bob Barnes who is one of the few Bandoneon Players outside of Buenos Aires. Bob is also an avid tango dancer and uses his love of tango dance to shape the sound of HTO to be beautiful , sensual, and most of all, incredibly danceable.
